Channel CSRs for beauty pageants to support dialysis centers – Health analyst to Companies

A health analyst, Jame McKeon Amoah has called on the companies to use a percentage of their Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSRs) in support of dialysis centers.

Speaking on Starr Today with Joshua Kodjo Mensah Wednesday, the health analyst stated that despite the fact that supporting entertainment is good, corporate bodies should also turn their attention to health centers.

“We have a lot of companies in the country that invest in other things that for me we can shift attention from. A lot of money is spent on beauty pageants, music programs and the others which are good entertainment and good for our people. But there are other areas that we can channel some of these monies to that can save people’s lives.

“Let me give an example of the man (First Sky) who has been helping dialysis centers for so many years now. If one man has been doing this, how much more the big companies in the country. Who use the CSR’s to do other things that for me they can use to reduce the amount we investment in music programs to help some of these health programs in supporting the poor,” Mr. Mckeon stated.

Background

Patients on dialysis at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital are lamenting a recent proposal for an upward adjustment in the cost of dialysis treatment, with an appeal to government to absorb it under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Notices of a proposed increase in the cost of dialysis treatment from 380 cedis to 765.42 cedis, an over 100% increment has sparked huge outcry from patients.

While Management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital maintains the notice of upward adjustment is just a proposal, subject to approval, public sentiments over the issue have dominated traditional and social media.

Starr News checks at the facility has revealed that patients on dialysis are extremely worried over the development.

They want the government to absorb the cost under the National Health Insurance Scheme.
