The Deputy Information Minister, Pius Hadzide, has asked Ghanaians to be hopeful in Ghana’s fight against the deadly COVID-19 and expect more recoveries.
Over the weekend recoveries from persons infected with COVID-19 jumped massively to 1,754, according to figures from the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
Even though the massive recoveries presented a glimmer of hope for Ghana’s fight against the highly infectious disease, some Ghanaians raised doubts in the number of recoveries.
An aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawa Mogtari also questioned how over 800 people recovered overnight.
But speaking in an interview on the Morning Starr on Monday, the deputy Information Minister told host Francis Abban that it is unfortunate that people are doubting the high number of recoveries.
According to him, there should more recoveries within the next few days.
“We are anticipating more recoveries…we have data now that suggest people who have strong immune system after 17 days are able to fight off this virus on their own.”
He added that “there should not be any doubt in the minds of Ghanaians about the number of recoveries.
Mr Hadzide also explained that Ghana is experiencing more recoveries because the vast majority of infected persons are asymptomatic and not showing any signs of the disease.
Ghana case count for the COVID-19 has hit 5,735 with 29 people dying from the disease.
