The Board and Management of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) have announced that consensus has been reached to resolve all outstanding issues following a high-level meeting involving government, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and local union executives.
According to a press statement, the meeting included the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations, Dr. Abdul Rashid Pelpuo; the Chief Executive Officer of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Dr. George Smith Graham; NLA Board Chairman Mr. Frederick Amissah; Director-General Mr. Mohammed Abdul-Salam; and executives of the local union led by the national leadership of the Financial, Business and Services Employees Union (FBSEU).
The statement noted that the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission is amenable to Management’s initial proposal of a 12% salary increase, rather than the union’s proposal of 8%.
Management, the Union and the Commission will also further address the gaps created by income tax compositions.
“Management therefore entreats all Staff to remain calm and return to their duties while these issues are resolved and industrial harmony is ensured,” the statement said.
Staff of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) have embarked on industrial action at the agency’s headquarters in Accra, demanding the immediate removal of Director-General Alhaji Mohammed Abdul-Salam.
The protest disrupted operations and led to a heightened security presence at the premises as workers blocked Brennan Hall, the facility where the NLA conducts its lottery draw operations, and vowed not to reopen it until their demands are met.
The local union secretary told reporters that staff are still receiving the same salaries they earned in 2024 and face serious operational challenges, including a lack of laptops, vehicles, and other essential working equipment.
But management reaffirmed its commitment to its mandate of generating revenue for national development and providing moments of hope and excitement for its patrons.
