The Eastern Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 60-year-old woman, identified as Juan Ama, who was reportedly shot during a funeral ceremony at Okra Kwadwo in the Akuapem area.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on October 11, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m., when mourners were attending a funeral at Okra Kwadwo.
During the greeting session by the chief of Amanokrom, one of the men in his entourage allegedly fired a gun as part of a customary display.
The shot, however, struck the woman accidentally, causing severe injuries.
The victim was quickly rushed to a nearby health facility but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Following the report, a team from the Regional Police Operations Unit, led by the Eastern Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Nkum, moved to the scene and arrested a suspect identified as Daniel Yeboah, who is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
Police say the body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, Chief Superintendent Ebenezer Tetteh, urged the public, especially those who handle firearms during public gatherings such as funerals and festivals, to exercise caution.
“We wish to advise all persons who handle firearms at crowded events to be extremely careful to avoid such unfortunate incidents in the future,” the police said.
