The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals over an alleged plot to assassinate a chief at Akyem Kwabeng in the Eastern Region.
The suspects, identified as Emelia Akua Asor and Butuakwa Seth, were picked up through an intelligence-led operation after police uncovered plans to eliminate the chief ahead of his first Royal Durbar scheduled for October 17, 2025.
According to police sources, the operation followed intelligence received on October 11, 2025.
Investigators say Emelia Akua Asor offered GHC 50,000 to undercover officers to kill the chief and a woman reportedly set to be installed as Queen Mother.

She also instructed her accomplice, Butuakwa Seth, to help identify the victims’ residences.
Police say Seth led the officers to the homes of the chief and the woman and even provided a photograph of the chief to aid the planned killing. The suspects allegedly promised an additional GHC 50,000 after the act was completed.
Both suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned soon.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to protecting lives and maintaining peace, particularly among traditional leaders in the region.
