Tension has escalated at the Okaikwei South Constituency collation centre, where Electoral Commission (EC) officials have been locked out.
The situation became tense at the Accra Academy collation center in the Greater Accra Region as a clash broke out between police, returning officers, and EC officials.
According to sources speaking to GHOne News, EC officials were left stranded after returning officers and police blocked the gates of the collation center.
GHOne’s team witnessed police personnel firing gunshots, further intensifying the situation and causing panic among the electorate.
The authorities explained that the lockout was due to overcrowding in the hall, preventing officials from entering.
Given the escalating tensions and the risk to public safety, there are calls for increased security in the constituency to protect citizens and ensure the safety of the electoral process.
