The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it has not yet received election results from nine constituencies across the nation.
In her declaration of the certified results, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa explained that the delays were due to interruptions in the collation process caused by political party supporters.
However, she assured the public that the total number of registered voters in the outstanding constituencies would not affect the outcome of the presidential election.
“Simply put, even if all the votes from the nine constituencies were added to the candidate who placed second, it would not change the outcome of the election,” she stated.
The constituencies still pending inclusion in the national total are Awutu Senya East, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Akwatia, Techiman South, Suhum, Dome Kwabenya, Ablekuma North, Ahafo Ano North, and Damango.
Mrs. Mensa clarified that the commission would update the election figures once the results from these constituencies are received.
“In light of the above, I have the singular honor, as the returning officer for the 2024 presidential election, to declare His Excellency John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the 2024 presidential election and the President-elect of the Republic of Ghana,” she concluded.
With this declaration, the Electoral Commission’s recognition of Mahama will officially trigger the transition process.
