The NPP has alleged that narcotics seizures linked to Ghana since 2025 have a combined estimated street value exceeding US$1 billion.
This was disclosed by the party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, during a media engagement at the NPP headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
The comments follow recent major drug seizures in Ghana and abroad, including the seizure of nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine at France’s Port of Dunkirk in September 2026, valued at about €225 million.
According to the NPP, the figure is based on 12 high-value narcotics cases involving Ghanaian territory, nationals or consignments traced to Ghana between 2025 and September 2026.
The party’s compilation includes seizures of cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine recorded in Ghana and countries including the Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, France and South Africa.
The NPP cited the March 2025 seizure of more than 3.3 tonnes of cocaine at Pedu Junction, the 866 parcels of suspected cocaine intercepted at Tema Harbour in August 2026, and the seizure of nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine in France in September 2026 from a container originating from Ghana.
Nana Boakye said the cases should prompt a closer examination of the country’s narcotics enforcement and cargo screening systems.
“The total estimated street value of major narcotics seizures linked to Ghana between 2025 and September 2026 exceeds US$1 billion,” he said.
The NPP is consequently calling for Parliament to investigate the cases, including how the consignments moved through Ghana and what became of investigations and prosecutions arising from the seizures.
