The government is set to recruit and enlist approximately 12,000 personnel into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) over the next three and a half years.

This announcement was made by the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, during the Government Accountability Series held on Monday, July 21, 2025.

According to Dr. Boamah, the recruitment drive is part of a broader initiative to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of the Armed Forces.

He noted that the personnel to be recruited will undergo rigorous training to align with the government’s goals of strengthening the GAF.

“I’m excited to announce that, as has been communicated by the Commander-in-Chief, a comprehensive enlistment and recruitment exercise is to be undertaken with the view to increasing the manpower strength of the Ghana Armed Forces. Altogether, we are enlisting and recruiting 12,000 personnel within the next three and a half years,” he stated.

He further indicated that future recruitment efforts will be more diversified to meet evolving national needs, particularly in the areas of industrialization and food security.

“Looking at the needs of the GAF and, in particular, the desire to build institutional capacity to support the ongoing drive towards industrialization and food security, future enlistment and recruitment exercises will also be targeting specific qualifications such as agricultural extension officers, artisans, and engineers,” he added.
