The Health Facilities and Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has shut down the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Clinic and nine other health facilities in the Ashanti Region for operating without valid licences.
The enforcement exercise, which began on Monday, October 13, 2025, forms part of HeFRA’s ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with national health regulations and to safeguard public health.
According to HeFRA officials, the affected facilities had been operating without the necessary authorisation and proper documentation required under the Health Institutions and Facilities Act.
The KMA Clinic, in particular, was found to have operated for several years without a valid licence a clear breach of the agency’s standards.
“These closures are necessary to protect the public from potential risks associated with unlicensed medical practice. Every health facility must operate within the law,” a HeFRA spokesperson said.
So far, 18 health facilities across the region have been closed since the start of the exercise. Officials say the operation will continue until all facilities in the region are verified and properly licensed.
HeFRA has urged the public to seek medical care only from certified health institutions and has encouraged unlicensed facilities to regularize their operations to avoid sanctions.
