First Lady, Lordina Mahama, has emphasized the need for collective action to empower women and girls, particularly in Ghana.
In a Facebook post to mark International Women’s Day (IWD), Mrs. Mahama reiterated the importance of working together to achieve gender equality and representation in national life.
“This year’s theme, #AccelerateAction, is a powerful call to step up our efforts to achieve gender equality and representation in national life,” Mrs. Mahama stated.
“We must work harder and faster together to empower women and girls and ensure equal opportunities in education, healthcare, leadership, and all aspects of life.”
According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ghana has made progress in reducing gender disparities in education and healthcare, but challenges persist in areas such as economic empowerment and political representation.
The UNDP report highlights the need for sustained efforts to address these challenges and promote gender equality in all aspects of Ghanaian life.
Mrs. Mahama’s commitment to women’s empowerment is well-documented.
Through the Lordina Foundation, she has supported various initiatives aimed at promoting girls’ education, maternal healthcare, and economic empowerment for women.
As Ghana joins the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day, Mrs. Mahama’s message serves as a timely reminder of the need for collective action to achieve gender equality.
