President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his government’s commitment to establish a new College of Education in the Jomoro Constituency of the Western Region, as part of efforts to expand access to teacher training across the country.
The President made this known during an inspection of an ongoing three-storey, 300-bed capacity hostel project at the Bimbilla EP College of Education, where he assessed progress on infrastructure development in teacher training institutions.
He indicated that the proposed institution will be constructed from the ground up at Ezinlibo to complement existing colleges of education and increase local capacity for training teachers.
The plan follows an earlier announcement by the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, who outlined government’s intention to establish a college in the area as a strategic intervention to accommodate more students and improve access to teacher education.
The project is expected to attract students from across the Western Region and beyond, while stimulating local economic activity and positioning Jomoro as an emerging centre for academic advancement.

The initiative has received backing from key stakeholders, including the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, and former Chief of Defence Staff, Peter Augustine Blay, who have both played roles in facilitating the establishment of the institution.
President Mahama also reaffirmed government’s broader commitment to upgrading infrastructure across existing colleges of education nationwide to improve learning conditions, in line with the administration’s Resetting Ghana agenda.
Concerns over road infrastructure within the Jomoro Constituency were also highlighted as requiring attention alongside the planned educational investment.
