Seventy artisans under the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region are set to receive working tools and equipment from the Member of Parliament for the area, Dorcas Affo-Toffey.
The presentation is scheduled to take place on Monday, May 25, 2026, at Half Assini and will benefit apprentices and graduates drawn from across the municipality.
The beneficiaries include dressmakers, seamstresses, tailors, hairdressers and barbers enrolled under the National Apprenticeship Programme.
Under the initiative, 25 hairdressers who have completed their apprenticeship training, as well as some currently undergoing training but capable of working independently, will receive hairdryers. Twenty barbers will also receive hair clippers, while 25 dressmakers and seamstresses will be presented with sewing machines to support their work.
According to Madam Affo-Toffey, who also serves as Deputy Minister for Transport, the intervention is a self-funded initiative aimed at empowering constituents and helping them become economically independent.
She explained that some apprentices under the programme already possess the skills to work and earn income while completing their training, making access to tools and equipment essential to their growth and sustainability.
“This is to support those who are willing to do something for themselves,” she stated.
The Jomoro MP noted that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader efforts to promote self-reliance and reduce dependence on the state for employment and economic support.
She stressed that government alone cannot provide all the needs of citizens, adding that such interventions are necessary to empower people to create opportunities for themselves and improve their livelihoods.

The support programme is expected to help the beneficiaries expand their skills into income-generating ventures while encouraging more young people to pursue vocational and apprenticeship training within the municipality.
