The Member of Parliament for the Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, Dorcas Affo Toffey, has introduced the government’s One Million Coders Programme in the constituency as part of efforts to equip young people with relevant digital and technology skills.

The initiative seeks to expose beneficiaries to coding, digital literacy and other technology-related skills to enable them to take advantage of employment, entrepreneurship and other opportunities in the growing digital economy.

The One Million Coders Programme is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, with a target of training one million Ghanaians in digital and ICT-related skills over four years.

The programme was launched in April 2025, with initial training areas including cybersecurity, networking, data analytics and data protection.

As of September 2026, about 140,000 people had registered for the programme, while more than 10,000 participants had completed courses, according to figures announced by the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George.

Under the programme, participants can access training in areas including software development, cybersecurity, data analytics, digital literacy, networking, cloud computing, digital marketing, data protection and artificial intelligence.

The introduction of the programme in Jomoro is expected to broaden access to structured technology education for young people in the constituency and contribute to efforts to bridge the digital skills gap.

Speaking on the initiative, Jomoro District Coordinator, Meya Nzema, stressed the importance of equipping young people with skills that can open up opportunities beyond traditional employment.

He encouraged prospective beneficiaries to take the training seriously and make effective use of the opportunities available through the programme.

Mr Nzema said the initiative comes at a time when digital skills are becoming increasingly important for employment, entrepreneurship and participation in the global economy.

He disclosed that his office had already visited several villages to provide training to young people interested in coding and other digital skills, adding that efforts would continue to reach more communities.

According to him, the Jomoro programme is targeting about 300 young people for training by the end of 2026.

Mr Nzema also cautioned the youth against internet fraud, stressing that the digital training programme is intended to equip participants with legitimate skills and opportunities and is not a platform for cybercrime.

He urged eligible young people in the constituency to enrol and take advantage of the training opportunities to build skills that can enhance their prospects in Ghana’s increasingly digital economy.
