JUSAG retains Afotey Otu as President; elects new national & regional executives

Samuel Afotey Otu has retained the JUSAG presidency, while Daniel Kofi Dorgbetor emerged National Vice President at the association’s delegates conference in Tamale.

Samuel Afotey Otu has been retained as the National President of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) after securing an overwhelming endorsement from delegates at the 2nd Quadrennial Delegates Conference in Tamale.

Afotey Otu, who went unopposed, polled 641 Yes votes out of 664 valid ballots cast to continue as National President at the end of the electronic voting process.

The National Vice-Presidential race which was fiercely contested saw, Daniel Kofi Dorgbetor, representing the Volta and Oti Regions, emerged victorious after beating competition from Samuel Amankwah of the Ashanti Region and Wanye James Sundogle from the Upper East Region.

Mr. Dorgbetor polled 323 votes, while Mr. Amankwah garnered 286 votes and Mr. Sundogle obtained 57 votes, respectively.

The incumbent General Secretary, Yakubu Abdulai, was also retained. He secured 644 Yes votes, with 20 delegates voting against him. His deputy, Joyce Assan from the Ashanti Region, polled 615 Yes votes, with 49 voting No.

For the National Women’s Commissioner position, Winnifred Arthur from the Central Region won to replace Hannah Boakye of the Bono Regions, who did not seek re-election. She polled 334 votes against 330 votes obtained by her contender, Grace Ngozi, winning by a margin of four votes.

The National Treasurer position was uncontested, with Owusu Kankam maintaining his seat with a 100 per cent endorsement.

Regional executives from all 16 regions were also elected. In Greater Accra, Ramsey Ahorklui was elected Chairman, with Martin Ayariga as Secretary and Jacqueline Gina Tsyewu as Women’s Commissioner, among others.

The conference, which is underway at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale, and will end on Friday evening with a dinner and awards, is on the theme: “Championing Staff Welfare and Technology; Anchors of Quality Justice.”
