The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has launched an investigation into the tragic death of Miss Joana Deladem Yabani, a fourth-year Biological Sciences student.
Her lifeless body was discovered near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre in the early hours of February 27, 2025.
According to an official statement issued by the university, KNUST Security Services received a report at approximately 5:00 a.m. about the presence of a lifeless female body on campus.
“The body was promptly transported to the University Health Services, where she was confirmed dead,” the statement read. The university has since informed Miss Yabani’s family and expressed its “deepest condolences to them during this difficult time.”
As a result of the incident,”KNUST management has assured the public that a “comprehensive investigation is underway in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), KNUST Internal Security, and the University Health Services to determine the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.” The statement which was signed by Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, Deputy Registrar of the University Relations Office, emphasized more that “all necessary measures are being taken to ascertain the facts.”
The university has urged students and the general public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information while respecting the privacy of the bereaved family. “We wish to assure the university community and the public of our unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of all students and staff,” the statement added.
