The Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on the government to expedite the completion of the first phase of the university’s long-delayed hospital project following parliamentary approval of funding.
Speaking at the university’s 59th Special Congregation held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, the Asantehene welcomed Parliament’s approval of the budgetary allocation and expressed gratitude to government for its continued support for the project.
He described the KNUST hospital as a vital national asset, stressing its importance to improving healthcare delivery, strengthening medical education, and contributing to national development.
The week-long graduation ceremony, which began on Wednesday, March 25 and ended on March 28, 2026, saw a total of 8,377 students graduate.
This included 3,136 undergraduates (37%) and 5,241 postgraduates (63%), with 71 PhD awardees—20 of them female.
The event was attended by key dignitaries, including the Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, and Dr. Cindy Jebb, President of Ramapo College of New Jersey.
In her remarks, outgoing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson commended President John Dramani Mahama, the Speaker of Parliament, and the Parliamentary Select Committee for approving the new KNUST Act, which she said would strengthen the university’s governance framework.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II also used the occasion to encourage graduates to uphold integrity as they transition into the wider world, urging them to be guided by strong moral values in their professional and personal lives.
