Medical laboratory Scientists Association is beginning a nationwide strike over alleged intimidation of their members and government’s refusal to review their conditions of service.
The strike is expected to disrupt the provision of services such as blood transfusion in hospitals.
Members of the group, last week, issued an ultimatum to government to address their plight including disparities in placement on the single spine salary structure as well as their demand for the establishment of a directorate to cater for the affairs of lab technicians.
The spokesperson for the association Dennis Adu-Gyasi told Starr News until government resolves their issues, they will not work.
“The issues are that we need a laboratory directorate with a director of laboratory services, we also need a dedicated laboratory account where money that are raised from the lab go back into the laboratory. Since 2012 of the single spine, the majority of our people were placed wrongly on the single spine structure and we have been going back and forth and nothing has been done and we think this is the time to take action.
“We have indicated to the Minister that if these things are not resolved in the space of the time, we will assume a total withdrawal of laboratory services including blood transfusion and all surveillance support that we give the Ghana health service and the Ministry of health”.
