The Chief of Maame Krobo, Nana Panin Nyarkum, has described President John Dramani Mahama as a trustworthy and dependable leader, saying ongoing development projects in the area are proof of promises fulfilled.

According to the chief, during the 2024 election campaign, he personally urged President Mahama to return and continue the development initiatives he started before leaving office in 2016 if he won the presidency.

“I told the President during the 2024 campaign that when he becomes President, he should return to continue the work he was doing. Indeed, seeing is believing. What we are witnessing today is a testament that President Mahama is someone who can be trusted and depended upon,” Nana Panin Nyarkum stated.

He further recalled discussions about the long-delayed Maame Krobo market project, noting that several measurements had been taken in the past without results.

“When the DCE came to discuss the market with me, I told him measurements had been taken many times at the market square to no avail. All I am saying is that Mahama is Ɔseadeɛyɔ (a leader who delivers),” he added.

The Chief said this during the commissioning of two classroom blocks at Nyamebekyere and sod cutting for a number of new projects on January 21,by Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey.

Delivering her address, the Regional Minister announced the commissioning and commencement of several education and infrastructure projects aimed at addressing priority needs in Maame Krobo and the Kwahu Afram Plains South District.

The projects include Construction of boys’ and girls’ dormitories at Maame Krobo Community Day School, Construction of a six-unit classroom block at Maame Krobo Methodist Primary School, Construction of a dining hall and kitchen at St. Fideles Senior High Technical School, Sod-cutting for the construction of a 40-kilometre Kwamepong Nkwanta–Mossipanin road.

Addressing a durbar, the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey said the projects would significantly improve learning conditions, provide safe environments for students and teachers, and enhance mobility and economic activity within the district.

She explained that the Kwamepong Nkwanta–Mossipanin road is being constructed under the government’s Big Push Programme, an initiative aimed at accelerating infrastructure development, creating jobs, and stimulating economic growth.

“Good roads mean smoother transport, faster travel times, and productive trade markets. Good schools shape the mental structure of our economy,” she emphasized.

She also revealed that plans are far advanced for the construction of a bridge over the River Afram, a project expected to ease transportation challenges and boost agricultural trade in the area.

“The President recognizes the Afram Plains as the food basket of the Ghanaian economy; producing cereals, vegetables, food crops, livestock, and fish,” she noted.

Touching on the broader national economy, Hon. Awatey highlighted recent government interventions, including the abolition of the E-levy, COVID-19 levy, betting tax, and other nuisance taxes. She also cited reductions in fuel prices, stable power supply, and an improved cedi performance against major foreign currencies.
