The Minority in Parliament has condemned the forceful closure of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) office in Ejisu, describing the incident as unacceptable and disruptive to public service delivery.
The protest, reportedly carried out by some supporters of the opposition National Patriotic Party (NPP), is said to have been triggered by concerns over the alleged neglect of party loyalists in government appointments.
Addressing the media on Monday, Ranking Member on Parliament’s Health Committee, Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie, called for an immediate halt to attacks on state institutions, warning against the growing trend of politically motivated disruptions.
“This nonsense must stop,” he said, stressing that acts of violence and interference with public offices undermine national development and should not be tolerated.
While acknowledging frustrations among some party supporters, Dr Afriyie noted that such actions were counterproductive and risked destabilising essential public services.
“The youth are protesting what they describe as the neglect of party loyalists in government appointments,” he said. “However, these actions only hinder development and must be condemned.”
The incident has temporarily disrupted operations at the NHIA office in Ejisu, affecting access to healthcare services for residents.
The Minority has pledged to remain vigilant and hold the government accountable for actions that impede national progress, while urging aggrieved groups to seek redress through lawful and peaceful means.
