The Minority in Parliament has petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) over the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi’s infamous dollar gift to televangelist, Patricia Asiedu Asiamah.
In a widely circulated video on social media last weekend, Mr. Gyamfi is captured gifting Ms. Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, some dollar notes after she had approached him by vehicle.
Mr. Gyamfi, who also speaks for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has since apologized for his “indiscretion”. He has also been cautioned by the presidency following a high-stakes meeting with the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah at the Jubilee House on Monday.
However, the New Patriotic Party led by its caucus in Parliament has found the presidency’s “caution” insufficient and is formally asking CHRAJ to probe the matter.
“We were expecting His Excellency President John Mahama to act on it but yesterday, we all saw the man in charge of communications at the presidency, Felix Kwakye, come out to say the president is not going to take any further actions against Mr. Sammy Gyamfi because he has apologised.
“We thought that that is not proper, we are disappointed in the actions the president,” Member of Parliament for Gambaga, Alhaji Nurudeen Mumuni, who submitted the petition to CHRAJ, said to Starr News.
He said the Minority had submitted a complaint to the “appropriate authorities” to launch an investigation into it.
Mr. Mumuni stated his caucus had “so much confidence in CHRAJ to do the right thing and bring finality to the issue”.
The lawmaker revealed that the caucus will file additional petitions at the Office of Special Prosecutor and Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
