MultiChoice, operators of DStv in Ghana, has responded to the Communications Minister’s call for a reduction in subscription prices, describing the demand as untenable given prevailing macro-economic challenges
In a statement issued on Sunday, August 3, the company expressed regret over the stance taken by the Minister despite what it described as “ongoing endeavours to engage with him candidly and in good faith.”
The statement follows a directive to NCA from the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Mr. Samuel Nartey George, during the Government Accountability Series on Friday, August 1, to suspend the broadcasting licence of MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DSTV, if the company fails to reduce its subscription fees by August 7, 2025

MultiChoice said it had submitted a proposal to both the Minister and the National Communications Authority (NCA) on an alternative engagement approach aimed at resolving the matter. It also reiterated its commitment to dialogue and collaboration with the relevant stakeholders.
“Having operated in Ghana for over 30 years, we value our employees, contract staff, dealers, installers, agents, and retailers. We are mindful of the dire implications that an impasse may have on livelihoods, and we assure you that we are committed to working together with the Honourable Minister and the NCA to resolve this matter,” the company stated.
The pay-TV operator stressed that it constantly strives to keep subscription fees as low as possible while maintaining service quality and customer choice. It pointed to economic realities that make such price reductions difficult.
“While we appreciate the recent appreciation of the cedi (which we have never referred to as a ‘fluke’), it is not tenable to reduce DStv subscription fees in the manner proposed by the Minister,” it stated.

MultiChoice further assured the public of its continued compliance with all laws and regulations in Ghana, and called on authorities to do likewise.
“We remain committed to constructive engagement and to complying with all applicable laws and regulations in Ghana,” the statement concluded.
