The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has charged Ghanaians to see the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving not merely as a ceremonial event, but as a solemn call to action against corruption, injustice, and social inequality.
Speaking at the maiden observance of the day at the Centre for National Culture in Koforidua on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the Minister stressed that while prayers and thanksgiving are important, they must be matched with manifestation of concrete to build a more transparent, just, and inclusive society.
“This National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day Observance calls on us to do more than just pray; we must also take action to rid our systems of corruption, increase transparency, and steer toward inclusive development.” The Regional Minister said.
The Minister lamented the damaging effects of corruption and inequality on Ghana’s development and called for bold reforms across public and private sectors.
Addressing the joint religious Congregation made up of Muslim leadership, traditional leaders, the clergy, and citizens, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey said the observance of the day, under the theme “Reflect, Reset, and Renewal for National Prosperity,” underscores the need for Ghanaians to go beyond religious rituals and commit to practical nation-building for the future.
“we are called to reset. Resetting involves pausing, recalibrating, and rerouting. It means aligning our values, our priorities, and our commitments with what truly matters – truth, justice, honesty, compassion, integrity, and collective responsibility. Ghana is at a turning point, where good decisions can have a significant impact on the future”
