Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim has expressed confidence that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) can defy Ghana’s long-standing political trend and secure a third consecutive term in office, popularly referred to as “breaking the eight.”
Speaking on The Verdict on Starr FM with Isaac Addae, Shamima Muslim said the party’s chances of achieving the feat will depend largely on its performance in government and its ability to meet the expectations of Ghanaians.
According to her, the NDC remains focused on delivering on its campaign promises and addressing the country’s socio-economic challenges, a move she believes could strengthen public confidence in the party ahead of the next general elections.
“If the NDC performs well, we can break the eight. Judging by how far we have brought this country, I am confident we will break the eight,” she stated.
Her comments add to the growing political debate surrounding the NDC’s prospects in future elections. Since the return to constitutional rule in 1992, no governing party has successfully won more than two consecutive terms in office, making the idea of “breaking the eight” a significant political objective.
Shamima Muslim suggested that the government’s performance will ultimately be the deciding factor for voters, stressing that sustained economic growth, improved public services and the successful implementation of key policies could position the NDC favourably in the eyes of the electorate.
She noted that the administration remains committed to fulfilling its mandate and delivering tangible results for citizens across the country.
The deputy presidential spokesperson my remarks come at a time when political parties are increasingly focused on governance outcomes as they seek to build support ahead of future electoral contests.
