Opinion: Akufo-Addo lacks credibility

Since the 1992 Constitution came into force, every President swears an oath as President that he will be faithful and true to the Republic of Ghana; that he will at all times preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana; and that he will dedicate himself to the service and wellbeing of the people of the Republic of Ghana and to do right to all manner of persons.

The current President has been the only one who has been very dishonest and takes delight in lying to Ghanaians.

He has been consistently dishonest by saying certain things when he was in opposition and doing otherwise when he is in power. Why should a President lie at all? It is absurd.

According to the Webster dictionary, “a person who tells lies” is a Liar and the President is fond of peddling lies and saying things that contradict himself and the NPP.

Governance has been defined to refer to structures and processes that are designed to ensure accountability, transparency, responsiveness, rule of law, stability, equity and inclusiveness, empowerment, and broad-based participation. Governance has been reduced to empty promises and strategic lies by Nana Akufo-Addo just to get votes.

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill, a British statesman, and a writer who was once the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom once said that “A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to put its pants on”. This stands to reason that you can lie today but tomorrow you will be exposed and confronted with the truth.

President Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party made several statements accusing the National Democratic Congress of alleged wrong doings and that if he were given the presidential mandate, he would not do same but rather do things better. Here we are with a series of some of his dishonest incompetent lies

The President promised that he would build 350 Senior High Schools from scratch within 18 months of his administration taking office but here we are, he cannot even boast of one completed SHS built from scratch after almost 4 years.

He promised not to run a government of Family and Friends, but what do we have today? He has over 50 people in his government who are members of his family.

He also promised to protect the public purse but what do we see today, he has appointed an unprecedented number of 125 ministers, over 1,000 Presidential Staffers at the Jubilee House and also the President rents a private jet that costs this nation a whopping USD 17,000 per hour whilst the Ghanaian Presidential Jet sits on the tarmac at the Kotoka International Airport.

He promised that he was not going to stop or destroy small-scale mining (Galamsey) but what do we see today? Galamsey has been banned for legitimate small-scale miners but NPP party officials can engage in Galamsey (small-scale mining) and are actively mining hence our rivers are still chocolate-brown in visual appearance even though government claims to have placed a ban on small-scale mining.

He also promised that he will not be cutting sod and commissioning projects during an election year but again what do we see? He goes around with a pickaxe and shovel and when he gets to a constituency on his regional campaign tour, he cuts sod for any project requested of him even though no budgetary provisions to ensure funding for completion of the project has been made.

He told us that we have a lot of money in Ghana hence his government will not borrow when given the mandate to lead Ghana. However, since the days of Kwame Nkrumah up to John Mahama in 2016 when Ghana’s public debt was 120 Billion Cedis, as of June 2020 Ghana’s public debt had ballooned to 256 Billion Cedis, implying that this government alone has borrowed over 156 Billion Cedis. Sadly, there is no corresponding infrastructure and projects to show that covers the amount they have borrowed.

He also promised to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa but what do we see. Each junction in Accra is engulfed with filth.

Good governance has 8 major characteristics; “It is participatory, consensus-oriented, accountable, transparent, responsive, effective and efficient, equitable and inclusive and follows the rule of law”. The current president has failed abysmally on all eight parameters of good governance and has been very dishonest and an untruthful leader to even want to seek another 4-year mandate from the Ghanaian people.

In a football game when you are a spectator watching, you are very quick to criticize and give solutions but when given the opportunity, you become a disgrace when you cannot even score a goal before an empty goal pole. This is how the current President has carried himself from opposition into government.

Never try to destroy someone else’s life with a lie when yours can be destroyed with the truth.

Nana Akufo-Addo is a dishonest person and a pathological Liar!
