The next series of the ORPED LEARNING-CLINICS for African young people will be held in the City of Tema, Accra Ghana.

The Host School will be Our Lady of Mercy Senior High School (OLAMS). The two day stand-alone clinics are slated for Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th February 2018. Each Clinic begins at 10am each day and ends at 4pm each day.

Four Learning Clinics have already been held in St Aquinas SHS in Accra and Mpohor SHS in the Western Region of Ghana. In all over 250 young people from 17 schools and institutions have participated.

The ORPED Learning Clinics have been designed by the ORPED Social Development Initiative (OSDI) with the specific objectives; to stimulate young people to take control of their learning regimens, develop the skill and art of learning, develop their own learning development plans, offers young people the opportunity to take self-control of their learning programs, to think critically to improve their learning outcomes. It also helps identify the challenges that young people face on their learning journeys and generate self-confidence.

The chief facilitator is a renowned teacher, educational advocate and social business developer Charles Cobbina. His over two decades participation in the child development and educational development space of many African countries positions him well for this unique learning model.

The Learning Clinics are designed for young people in the age bracket of 14 and 19 years. In Ghana these young persons are mostly in the senior high schools or in their first years in the university.

The government has just introduced the free SHS policy. This policy among other things is to reduce the financial burden on families so that young people who have the capacity, the potential and the willingness to attend school will not be deprived.

It is the belief of the promoters that these Learning Clinics are timely and appropriate as a solution for the beneficiaries to obtain improved outcomes at the end of their three year secondary education.
