The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has clarified the status of former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta’s Interpol Red Notice, debunking reports suggesting that he has been removed from the list.
In a public notice on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the OSP stated that the proceedings regarding Ofori-Atta’s request to remove his name from INTERPOL’s Red Notice are still pending.
“The proceedings are still pending and the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files is still studying the case,” the statement read.
The OSP urged the public to disregard reports claiming otherwise, describing them as misinformation.
“During the pendency of the proceedings, the Applicant’s name, image and details are often redacted from public view until a final determination is made. The public is urged to disregard all publications to the contrary as borne of mischief and misinformation,” the notice added.
The Red Notice had been issued after Ofori-Atta failed to appear before the OSP on multiple occasions over investigations into corruption allegations involving the National Cathedral project and contracts with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited.
Following formal charges by the OSP on November 18, 2025, Ofori-Atta and seven others face 78 counts of corruption and related offences, including conspiracy to influence procurement processes. The case is now before the High Court (Criminal Division) in Accra under case number CR/0106/2026.
The OSP emphasized that an INTERPOL Red Notice is not an international arrest warrant but a request for assistance in locating and provisionally arresting individuals.
It has indicated its intent to pursue extradition to ensure that Ofori-Atta faces the charges in Ghana.
