Social media has been buzzing over reports that Highlife legend Paulina Oduro claimed Kofi Kinaata is “bigger” than the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA). However, the veteran singer and actress has come forward to clarify her statement, dismissing the misleading headlines.
The controversy erupted after Kofi Kinaata was left out of the Artiste of the Year category for the 26th TGMA, despite being one of the most nominated artists, thanks to the success of his Kofi oo Kofi EP. Many fans expressed their disappointment, and in response, Paulina Oduro reportedly urged the artist not to be discouraged. However, her comments were misrepresented by some blogs, sparking backlash.
Speaking on ShowBiz Today on Empire 102.7 FM on Saturday, March 29, 2024, Oduro addressed the issue headon.
“Oh, Chaley! I think these bloggers should get their facts right,” she said. “What I actually said was that it’s not a big deal. Kofi is loved all over Ghana, he’s a big artiste and should not be worried whether he’s nominated or not.”
She firmly refuted claims that she suggested Kinaata was bigger than the awards scheme itself.
“TGMA has been around for a long time , Kofi can never be bigger than that show. But as an artiste, he is big!” she emphasized.
Paulina Oduro also urged bloggers to be responsible with their reporting and avoid spreading misinformation. She reiterated her admiration for Kinaata, whose talent speaks for itself.
