Speculation over the future of Pep Guardiola has intensified after several reports claimed the Spaniard is set to leave Manchester City at the end of the 2025/26 season, bringing an end to one of the most successful managerial reigns in football history.
Reports in England suggest Guardiola could announce his departure after City’s final Premier League game of the campaign against Aston Villa, despite still having a contract running until 2027.
Guardiola arrived at Manchester City in 2016 after trophy-laden spells with FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Since taking over at the Etihad Stadium, he has transformed City into a dominant force in English and European football.
Under his leadership, City have won 20 major trophies, including six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, five League Cups and the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League crown.
The 55-year-old also guided Manchester City to a historic treble-winning season in 2022/23, matching the achievement previously accomplished by rivals Manchester United.
Guardiola’s side became known for their possession-based style, tactical flexibility and relentless consistency, with City setting several Premier League records during his tenure, including becoming the first club to win four consecutive league titles.
This season, Guardiola once again added silverware to City’s cabinet after guiding the club to FA Cup and League Cup success.
However, growing speculation over his future has dominated headlines in recent days, with former City assistant and ex-Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca reportedly lined up as his successor.
Multiple reports claim Maresca has already agreed terms in principle to replace Guardiola should the Spaniard officially step down this summer.
Although neither Guardiola nor Manchester City have officially confirmed the departure reports, tributes have already begun pouring in from fans and football figures across the world.
Guardiola is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers of all time, having revolutionized modern football with his tactical innovations and trophy-winning mentality.
If confirmed, his exit would mark the end of a remarkable decade that changed the history of Manchester City forever.
It is expected that former Chelsea manager, and Club World Cup winner Enzo Maresca will replace him at Man City.
