The Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service has arrested ten individuals accused of running a sophisticated online scam that used fake food delivery platforms to defraud unsuspecting customers.
The arrests followed weeks of surveillance and coordinated operations led by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The first six suspects – identified as Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah – were picked up on October 1, 2025 in Sogakope.
According to police sources, the group created cloned websites and social media pages posing as legitimate food delivery brands, including Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko.
Customers who ordered through these fake pages were asked to make mobile money payments in advance but never received their meals.

Investigators also uncovered instances where the fraudsters gained access to victims’ mobile money wallets and bank accounts under the pretense of helping them complete transactions — only to siphon off funds.
Several digital devices believed to have been used in the scam were seized for forensic analysis.
A follow-up operation on October 12, 2025 in Haatso, Accra, led to the arrest of the suspected ringleader, Elijah Sotama Etse (alias Pop Smoke), and three accomplices – Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli.
Police retrieved twelve mobile phones and other electronic gadgets from their hideout.
All ten suspects are currently in custody and are expected to be arraigned in court today, Monday, October 13, 2025.
The Ghana Police Service has urged members of the public who may have fallen victim to similar online food delivery scams to report to the nearest police station to aid in ongoing investigations.
