The Minister for Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye says the proposed mandatory health insurance policy for non-Ghanaian resident visitors has not be approved by cabinet.
According to him, contrary to circulating information, the ministry emphasized that this proposal originates from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and has not been adopted as official government policy.
He further stated in a statement that the NHIA’s proposal aims to ensure that foreign nationals in Ghana have access to necessary healthcare services during their stay. However, the Minister highlighted that the proposal has not yet been reviewed or approved by the Cabinet.
“We urge the public to disregard any misinformation that may suggest that the policy has been finalized and its mode of implementation settled,” the ministry stated.
He assured citizens that any future policy would undergo thorough scrutiny and adhere to all necessary protocols to evaluate its benefits for the people of Ghana.
Dr. Okoe-Boye reaffirmed its commitment to transparent policymaking, ensuring that any decision regarding health insurance for visitors would be carefully considered to serve the best interests of the nation.
