President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday Monday received the Queen’s Baton at the Jubilee house.
The baton symbolizes the linkage between England’s colonized countries and territories.
The President was assisted by some officials from the Jubilee house; the Chief of Staff, Hon. Akosua Frema Opare, Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Usssif and his Deputy, Hon Evans Opoku Bobie. Other personalities present were the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi and President of Ghana Olympics Committee, Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah.
All these personalities took their turns to run with the games’ torch.
The games’ torch will travel to seventy-two (72) member states as it seeks to send a message of solidarity and also begin the preparation of various athletes to participate in the upcoming Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games is an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that is scheduled to be hosted in the Alexander Stadium and will commence on 28th July 2022 and end on 8th August 2022.
The baton leaves Ghana on 28th October 2021 to Cameroon.
