The Public Relations Officer of the Eastern regional police command, Ebenezer Tetteh, has warned the police will ruthlessly clampdown on any further attempts by residents of Somanya to foment trouble.
A group of irate youth Monday May 29, 2017 raided a police cell in Somanya to free colleagues of theirs remanded for last Friday’s chaos in the town. This followed the violence that broke out there in the wake of the arrest of the alleged ringleader of last Friday’s mayhem over ECG bills.
Speaking on the recent development Tuesday on Morning Starr, ASP Tetteh described the action of the youth as “criminal” assuring that it will not be countenanced.
“What happened there was very, very bad. It was criminal and the action of the youth was unlawful and we are going to make sure that those who are behind are subsequently picked. What have picked 13 including the ringleader and after we conclude our investigations, the next thing will be to arraign them before court. That is what we are bent on doing irrespective of the demonstration and the actions of the people.
“We have enough men on the ground to counter any action of anybody who’ll subsequently try to breach the peace of the area and also do anything to affect law abiding citizens.
“Our advice to all the people who are planning disruption with further attacks to rescind their decision because our men on the ground are going to ensure that whoever foments trouble on the ground [he is] picked and dealt with in accordance with the law,” he told Morning Starr Host, Francis Abban.
