Two watchmen of the Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School (SHS) have been interdicted by the Ghana Education Service (GES) for allegedly assaulting a special needs student at the school.
The interdicted have been handed to the Police for further investigations into the issue.
GES, in a statement released on Thursday, 20th August 2026, which was signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, the Service, said it had received a “disturbing report” of the alleged incident.
According to preliminary reports, the student involved is a special needs learner who is on medication.
“On the day of the incident, the student reportedly suffered a relapse and required medical attention. The alleged assault is said to have occurred during this period.
As an initial step, the two watchmen were arrested and handed over to the Police for further investigation. Management has also interdicted them with immediate effect,” the statement said.
GES further noted that thorough investigations into the matter are currently ongoing.
“Based on the outcome, appropriate sanctions will be applied in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana,” it assured.
The Service cautioned all staff to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and to protect the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of every student.
It further emphasised that it will not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety and well-being of students.
Management assured parents, guardians, and the general public that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves.
