Dr. Hassan Ayariga, the presidential candidate of the All People’s Congress (APC), has made a bold pledge to overhaul Ghana’s wage structure, promising to increase the monthly minimum wage to ₵5000 if elected. In a recent interview with GHOne TV, Ayariga outlined his plan, which includes implementing a bi-weekly payment system and a significant wage increase.
“So APC and Hassan Ayariga, after introducing a 24-hour economy and expanding the labor force, I’m now going to change the salary structure,” Ayariga said. “We will have a bi-weekly salary system, meaning Ghanaians will receive their pay every two weeks. Workers will collect a salary twice a month, effectively doubling their payment frequency.”
Ayariga explained that under this new structure, workers would receive part of their salary every two weeks, adding a level of financial stability. He also promised to boost daily wages from the current 18.99 Ghana cedis to a range between 150 and 300 Ghana cedis, and ultimately, he committed to increasing the monthly minimum wage from approximately 1,000 cedis to 5,000 cedis.
“This change will improve welfare and increase the labor force,” he said, noting that his government would support fair wages for every Ghanaian. His ambitious wage increase proposal is part of his vision to create a more robust economy that prioritizes the welfare of workers and encourages economic growth.
