Reggae and dancehall musician Livingstone Etse Satekla popularly known as Stonebwoy has pleaded to government to come to the aid of creatives considering the dire effects of the novel coronavirus on the entertainment industry.
The ‘Nominate’ hitmaker explained how the virus had exposed the vulnerability of musicians during this period, in a Instagram live session with Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.
Stonebwoy explained that the lack of shows, due to the ban on public gathering, has made them stranded, and if care was not taken new crop of musicians would end up with nothing like their predecessors.
He said “we are hungry and the COVID-19 has also exposed how vulnerable we are as creatives. We cannot go anywhere and the shows that we benefit from albeit not regularly are not coming so things have been difficult.”
He told the minister “we have seen our predecessors and we will not want to end up like them. You see their photos and you get scared that if care is not taken and the right systems are not put in place, we will end up like them.”
At the end of their conversation, Mr Oppong Nkrumah agreed to a sit down with industry players to put measures in place to ensure creatives are able to monetise their products well.
