We won’t let COVID-19 spread in Koforidua – MCE assures

The Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben South Isaac Appaw Gyasi has urged residents of the municipality to remain calm, but continue to observe the preventive protocol of Covid-19 to help contain the spread of the deadly virus.

The assurance follows Ghana Health Service (GHS) report which says New Juaben South has recorded two confirmed cases of coronavirus.

According to the MCE, “technically, Koforidua has recorded one case. The other case is in New Juaben North that is Effiduase and Asokore thereabout. The third person is someone who stays in Koforidua but works in Atua in Somanya”.

The MCE, though worried about the recorded cases despite numerous preventive interventions implemented, is however propitious of containing the disease from spreading.

“We worked so hard together with the Health Director, the Police Commander and other stakeholders with the aim that we do not record any positive case here however beginning of last week Koforidua recorded a case. The person has already been isolated and contact tracing is underway and we are going to make sure we do that aggressively. I, on behalf of President Akufo-Addo, will provide all the needed support to the team to work hard to contain the disease. We will make sure the virus does not spread in the Municipality”.

As part of intensive measures to curb the spread of the disease, the New Juaben South MCE on Saturday, May 25, 2020, stormed the Koforidua-Agartha Market to continue with the distribution of nose masks to market women and also enforce social distancing protocols.

The MCE fumed over blatant disregard to social distancing protocols by the market women threatening that the market risks closure soon should its leaders fail to ensure social distancing protocol, regular handwashing and the wearing of nose masks.

One twenty-five (125 )Covid-19 cases recorded between Sunday and Monday dawn in Ghana has raised the country’s case count to 6,808.

The figure stood at 6,683 as of Sunday morning. The recoveries now stand at 2,070 while the death toll remains at 32, according to the Ghana Health Service data.

Out of the total National figure, Eastern Region has recorded 106 confirmed cases.
