The Honorary Consul of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to Ghana, Hon. Edmond Boateng, has called for a more structured and results-driven approach to economic diplomacy to strengthen Ghana’s position as a competitive global investment destination.

Speaking at a high-level engagement with key actors within Luxembourg’s financial ecosystem, Hon. Boateng stressed the need for Ghana to deliberately align its diplomatic engagements with economic priorities, ensuring that international relations translate into tangible outcomes such as increased investment inflows, expanded access to trade finance, and stronger institutional partnerships.

Addressing stakeholders within one of Europe’s leading international financial centres, he noted that Ghana’s diplomatic efforts must evolve into strategic tools that directly support national economic growth.

He highlighted Ghana’s political stability, institutional credibility, and vibrant private sector as strong fundamentals that position the country as a natural gateway to West Africa. However, he emphasised that these advantages must be deliberately leveraged through coordinated engagement with global financial centres, development institutions, and private capital markets.

According to him, economic diplomacy should serve as a bridge between governments and businesses by facilitating access to capital, enabling cross-border partnerships, and creating credible platforms for investment. He further underscored the importance of aligning government policy, private sector initiatives, and diplomatic missions abroad to ensure a cohesive and impactful national economic strategy.

Hon. Boateng also urged Ghana to confidently project itself as a value-adding partner in the global economy, offering innovation, skilled human capital, and access to a growing regional market. He noted that such a shift is critical to redefining Africa’s engagement with international partners and securing mutually beneficial outcomes.

The engagement brought together key representatives from Ghana’s diplomatic and trade missions, including the Deputy Head of Mission at the Ghana Embassy in Brussels, Dr. Innocent Badasu; Honorary Consul of Luxembourg to Tunisia, Yeboah Kyeremeh; Trade Attaché at the Ghana Mission in Brussels, Kwaku Boahen; and officials from the Permanent Mission of Ghana to the European Union, alongside business executives and stakeholders from the financial and investment community.

Hon. Boateng reaffirmed the commitment of the Honorary Consular Corps to advancing Ghana’s economic interests by leveraging its global networks to strengthen international cooperation and facilitate strategic partnerships.

As global investors continue to seek stable and high-potential markets, he noted that a focused and structured approach to economic diplomacy will be key to enhancing Ghana’s attractiveness and competitiveness on the African continent.
