10,000 free warm meals delivered to selected Ga communities

This Christmas Day, the Free Food Festival, spearheaded by Harriet Nartey with The Free Food Company (TFFC), brought immense joy and relief to thousands of families across several communities in Accra.

With 10,000 warm meals distributed to Labadi, Osu, Nima, and Odorkor residents and spontaneous locations along the streets, the outreach was a powerful testament to the spirit of giving and community solidarity.

The atmosphere was nothing short of extraordinary as Harriet Nartey and TFFC leaders personally joined team members and volunteers to hand over meal packs and food hampers.

From tears of joy to heartfelt expressions of gratitude, the event was a deeply emotional and fulfilling experience for both beneficiaries and volunteers. Harriet described the outreach as “a humbling reminder of how even small acts of giving can transform lives. This isn’t just a meal; it’s hope, love, and a reminder that no one is forgotten.”

The Free Food Festival represents more than just a one-off effort. It reflects the ongoing work of The Free Food Company, a non-governmental organisation committed to improving food security, combating food waste, and advancing environmental sustainability.

Lady Diana Naa Klokor Lartey, Co-Founder and CEO of TFFC while talking to the media, addressed the concern of whether such initiatives are fleeting or leave beneficiaries to their fate after the event. She explained, “This is far from a one-off exercise. Our flagship programme, ‘Project 1440,’ envisions a Ghana where every minute of the day sees a warm meal handed out to a person in need. By the end of 2025, our goal is to distribute over half a million meals annually and scale it even further from there to every second of the day. Initiatives like today are just one of many steps toward achieving this vision.”

To support Project 1440, Lady Diana unveiled The Food Pledge Challenge, a call to action for well-meaning individuals, families, restaurants, food vendors, supermarkets, industries, farmers, and all players in the food value chain. The challenge encourages participants to sponsor specific quantities of warm meals, creating a ripple effect of generosity and collective action to ensure this ravaging hunger is put on a tight leash.

Prince Davidson, Founder of The Free Food Company and COO of DAMC, addressed concerns about the potential for dependency among beneficiaries. He emphasised that while the organisation is committed to addressing immediate hunger, the overarching objective is to empower individuals to become self-sufficient. He noted, “Unemployment, unemployability, and the exponentially increasing cost of living are the root causes of food insecurity in Ghana. Our programmes go beyond feeding people; we provide skills training and job placement opportunities for beneficiaries, ensuring they can become productive members of society and sustainably provide for themselves and their families. The goal is not to create dependence but to empower independence.”
The overwhelming success of the Free Food Festival would not have been possible without the generous contributions of sponsors, partners, and volunteers. Harriet Nartey and the TFFC team extend their heartfelt gratitude to:

The diplomatic community, whose generous donations during the A Night with the Diplomats fundraiser were instrumental in achieving this milestone.

Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International, East Legon Chapter, for their exceptional contributions.

Corporate sponsors, including A&C Mall and Central Hotel, for their invaluable backing.

Media partners such as Pan African TV, Metro TV, Lifestyle TV, MaxTV, myJoyonline.com, dailyguidenetwork.com, Ameyaw Debrah, and AugustusPiloo, and many others, who amplified our message and ensured widespread coverage.

The extraordinary volunteers who came out in their numbers, embodying the true spirit of Christmas with their tireless efforts and selflessness.

Harriet expressed her appreciation, saying, “To everyone who donated, volunteered, or helped amplify our message, you have been part of something truly special. Together, we’ve touched thousands of lives and created memories that will last a lifetime. Your efforts have etched joy and gratitude into the hearts of thousands.” Thank you for making this Christmas extraordinary.”
