Industrial Relations Practitioner Muhammed Affum has weighed in on the alleged assault of a female customer Portia Asantewa Duah at the KONA Bar in Accra by a bouncer identified as Daniel Ablorh.
“The issue of violence is frowned upon generally. The bouncer will have to face the law. What happened at KONA Bar is assault and is a criminal offense,” he told Morning Starr host Francis Abban Tuesday August 22, 2017.
“When those who go against the law are punished, it serves as deterrence for others,” he added while commenting on the ghastly incident.
Speaking on the same programme ace journalist and women advocate Esther Armah added her voice to Mr. Affum’s saying, “A law is only valuable when it is used.”
She continued that, “We have a by-stander culture. There were people at the KONA Bar who looked on when the bouncer slapper her [Portia Asantewa Duah]. Ghana is thought of one of the most peaceful countries in Africa. That must reflect in our way of lives.”
The bouncer had since been in police detention after turning himself in on Sunday afternoon waiting to be arraigned before the court by the police.
Meanwhile, the bar has since apologized over the incident in a Facebook post.
“We, the Managment of Kona Cafe and Grill sincerely apologize to our cherished customers for the unwarranted behavior of our bouncer last night.
“We wish to bring to the attention of our customers that we do not condone the behaviour of our staff especially violence against women, as that does not reflect the values of our establishment, And as such, take full responsibility for his actions. We plead with the general public to forgive us our failings, We learn from such experiences.
“We acknowledge the distress and embarrassment caused to our customers and we have already taken the necessary disciplinary actions against him.
“We apologise once again and promise that such an incident will not occur again.”
