Seven family heads in Manya – Jorpanya have challenged a youth group in the area to take legal action if they feel lands in the area are being sold indiscriminately.
Last week, the indigenous Manya youth Association fingered their chief, Nene Tei Djanhene Korabo the IV, as the man in the middle of the wanton sale of lands in the area.
They alleged all attempts to pursue dialogue with Nene Tei Djanhene Korabo IV have failed.
Speaking to Starr News’ Daniel Nii Lartey, the secretary of the youth, Ebenezer Martey said because he [Nene Djanhene Korabo] did not consult the youth and other opinion leaders before taking the decision to sell “our lands” it has enabled other adjoining communities to also encroach.
“That is the reason why we are very mad at this juncture,” he added.
But in an odd twist, a splinter youth group has mounted a strong defense for the Seven Family heads – stressing that the allegations against them are untrue.
“We have only one Manya youth association covering all the youth of the seven families in the Manya clan. None of the seven family heads were present at their press conference,” said the spokesperson for the seven families and youth group Nargeh Benjamin cataloging the achievements of Nene Tei Djanhene Korabo the IV.
“The Chiefs and the family heads are the custodian of the Manya land…If they think what they are doing is also in tandem they can take us on. We are ready for them,” he added.
