E.T. Mensah benefited from Ayisi Boateng’s courtesies in SA – Annoh Dompreh

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament Frank Annoh-Dompreh has revealed that the embattled diplomat  George Ayisi Boateng extended great courtesies to the NDC’s E.T Mensah on his recent visit to the rainbow nation.

According to him, the treatment given to the opposition member proves that the NPP founding father is not as divisive as his comments suggest.

Mr. Ayisi Boateng has apologised for saying that his priority as a high commissioner is to employ and assist members of the NPP. He also said NPP members are more Ghanaian than other Ghanaians.

The apology has not calmed tempers as the minority insist it was forced out of him.

“Someone who made such recalcitrant comments saying some Ghanaians are more Ghanaian than others and 72 hours after saying that he is called to the Flagstaff House and forced to apologize that  is an insincere apology, this is one of the most insincere apologies  I have ever heard, the man by his countenance  is an unrepented bigot and the apology must be thrown into the dustbin, the apology is not even worth  the paper it was written on, we should throw it away, no one should waste his time on such an apology,” Minority Spokesperson on Communications and MP for Sanerigu ABA Fuseini said.

Commenting on the matter,  Annoh-Dompreh told Francis Abban on the Morning Starr that even though the comment was unfortunate, the apology should resolve the matter.

“To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time an unfortunate comment has come from him. He has shown remorse and has apologised and so I think we should let it be. I have read the apology and I think it is good enough. It is not who he is, a lot of people have received good treatment from him and the latest I understand is ET Mensah who received great courtesies from him when was in South Africa recently”.

Meanwhile, Communication consultant Nana Yaa Ofori Atta has noted sacking the beleaguered diplomat is an option available to the President.

“The apology should have been swift. An apology is just a start. Sacking Ayisi Boateng is an option.

“We have come off the dead goat syndrome and we don’t need to go back to that. We’ve moved on. The Foreign Affairs Ministry should have said something on this case”.
