The Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has begun vetting of its parliamentary aspirants in the northern region. The vetting follows a successful picking and filing of nominations by both incumbents and new entrants.
The two-day vetting commenced Thursday morning at the Global dreams hotel in Tamale. The General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Aseidu Nketiah who addressed the aspirants before the vetting, said the party wants the grassroots members to decide on who to represent them.
He said the leadership of the NDC, therefore, does not intend to disqualify any candidate in the vetting process. He urged the candidates to accept the outcome of the primaries to forge a united front for victory in the 2020 general elections.
Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Chairman of the NDC, Alhaji Ibrahim Mobila has urged all constituency Executives in the region to desist from openly supporting and campaigning for any Parliamentary Aspirant.
He said any suspected involvement of the constituency Executives in the impending parliamentary primaries would defeat fair play in the whole process.
The NDC will on August 24, 2019, hold its parliamentary primaries to select persons who will represent them in the 2020 general elections in various constituencies.
Chief Alhaji Mobila who spoke to Starr News, was emphatic he has no preferred candidates among the aspirants in the entire region. He, therefore, urged any other executive, especially at the constituencies to emulate his example to ensure a level playing grounds for the candidates.
He further advised the leadership of the party in the region to respect the chiefs, imams, clergy and the grassroots of the party. This he said will make the NDC more attractive in the 2020 general polls.
