BIMA Ghana, the leading provider of mobile delivered insurance and health services, has scooped the prestigious Mobile Insurance Leadership Award for the second time running, during the 2nd edition of the Ghana Insurance awards. The annual Ghana Insurance awards recognizes excellence and outstanding performances across the Ghanaian insurance industry. The event took place at the Kempinski Hotel, Gold Coast City Accra on the 26th of July.

Since BIMA’s entry into the Ghanaian market in 2010, its core mission has been to improve the livelihoods of the underserved population, by providing affordable and easily accessible insurance and health services.

In just 2 minutes, customers can register for BIMA products through a paperless process and pay from just Ghc2 per month through their mobile phone , to be covered in case of hospitalization, accident or loss of life. BIMA’s Ghanaian success story has been replicated across Latin America, Africa and Asia and today the company reaches 31 million customers with insurance products and over 2.2 million through its mobile health services.

Damien Gueroult, Country Manager for BIMA Ghana, said: “We are honored to receive this prominent award for the second time in a row. It is gratifying to know that our contributions towards improving health awareness and financial resilience in Ghana are being recognized”.

“With over 60% of the Ghanaian population still being uninsured and the prevailing lack of health literacy in the country, we feel empowered to pursue our efforts in making insurance and telemedicine accessible and affordable to all Ghanaians through the use of technology”, he added.

Among the innovative initiatives that helped BIMA scoop the Award for the second time is the introduction of a fully digital claims process, which enables customers to send their claims documents via Whatsapp and receive their claim pay-out through mobile money, all from the comfort of their home. Claims digitalization helped BIMA pay 45,000 claims worth over Ghc17 million.

BIMA was also the first company to provide teledoctor and health services in Ghana, providing customers with the opportunity to have phone consultations with qualified medical practitioners for themselves and their entire family without losing out on their daily income by travelling long distances, waiting hours to see a doctor and covering the cost of consultation.

BIMA’s unremitting commitment is to afford Ghanaians all over the country access to insurance and health services. BIMA currently provides over 2.2 million Ghanaians with its services and has paid over 45,000 claims till date.
