Highway robbers terrorizing commuters on the Akyem Anyinasin-Tafo road have shot dead one person and injured others.

The incident occurred Wednesday evening around 7:30 pm.

The body of the deceased identified as Richard Boateng alias Kofi Tawiah, 37, has been retrieved by police from the Akyem Tafo District Police Command and deposited at the Tafo Government Hospital Morgue.

One other person who suffered gunshot wound has been hospitalized at the same hospital.

The Assembly Member for Anyinasin, Isaac Okyere popularly known as Siaco, told Starr News the robbers used a tricycle to block the deplorable road to aid their operation.

“It is very serious. We just returned from the scene. What happened was that a trader who plies her trade to Accra had goods on section of the Akyem Tafo to Anyinasi road so she asked a tricycle rider to go with her son to convey the banana and plantains to Tafo but on their way, they met four armed robbers who suddenly appeared from the bush- two at their back and two in front, so they tied them with a rope and threw them into the bush and used the tricycle to mount a blockage on the road”

“So the deceased who was on a motorbike also appeared and upon seeing the robbers attempted to return and flee but was shot in the head by the armed robbers and his body was thrown into the bush”.

He further narrated that “another motorbike rider and a pillion passenger who also noticed the robbery incident, however, managed to escape unhurt ”

The Akyem Anyinasin to Old Tafo road is in a very deplorable state hence robbers have taken undue advantage for the past two years to terrorize commuters.

Some fatalities and injuries have been recorded in previous incidents, while female passengers have been indecently abused.

The Assembly Member said the Anyinasin Community with a population of about 5000 inhabitants has no Police Post, therefore, depends on the Akyem Tafo Police for security which is not swiftly provided.

The Chief of Akyem Tafo, Osabarima Adusei Peasah in 2018 raised concerns over the level of insecurity on the road but said the local Police did not have enough personnel and logistics to handle the situation hence called on the Inspector General of Police to assist.
