The Local Economy of Sekondi-Takoradi has been boosted with over 210 million dollar construction of an Atlantic Terminal with the Port of Takoradi by Ibistek an Indigenous fully owned Ghanaian Company.

The Atlantic Terminal which will sit on 62 hectors of reclaimed land is being undertaken by a Belgium Company Jan DeNul is expected to be completed on November 3rd, 2021.

Speaking to a cross-section of the media at the Port of Takoradi, Board Chairman of Ibistek Kwame Gyan revealed that the oncoming of the terminal forms part of the vision to transform and modernise the port built during the Gordon Guggisberg era.

“I am happy to tell you all that this is the first time an indigenous company is entering the maritime space which has largely been dominated by International Players and this will definitely boost the economy of Ghana”, elated Kwame Gyan told the media.
He said the construction of the ultra-modern terminal will involve the dredging part of the port to 16 meters that can accommodate bigger vessels while the same sand will be used to reclaim the land for the project

“Our aim of Ibistek is to extend our investment to other countries, once we are done with Ghana, now we have prove to everyone that we can do it, with the help of government, again all the materials being used for this project are procured locally, all subcontractors are local companies and that is the directive given to the main contractor, again all the workers are Ghanaians with majority from Sekondi-Takoradi”, he revealed.

The Director of Port, Takoradi Capt Ebenezer Afedzie stated that the Port has since the discovery of oil and gas in 2007 been strategically positioning itself to provide the needed platform for oil and gas services to make efficient and serve the business needs of its clients.

He emphasised that “ The oncoming of the ultra modern and multipurpose Atlantic terminal will not only accommodate bigger container vessel but will also improve the turnaround time and cost of doing business at Port of Takoradi. Project Manager for the Jan Den Nul Calin Andreescu added that the on course to meet the deadline of the project after signing the contract on December 19th last year.
