Thousands of football fans converged at the Asokwa Interchange on Saturday after Ambassador Ibrahim Yaghi transformed the busy transport interchange into a massive public viewing arena for Ghana’s FIFA World Cup clash, in what has become one of the largest football watch parties in the Ashanti Region.
The initiative, organised by Ambassador Yaghi with support from the Asokwa Municipal Assembly, brought together families, youth, traders and football lovers from across Kumasi to cheer on the Black Stars as well as other World Cup matches in an atmosphere filled with patriotism, music and unity.
The Ashanti Regional Minister was among dignitaries who attended the event, joining thousands of supporters as they rallied behind Ghana’s national team.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Yaghi said football remains one of the few platforms capable of bringing people together regardless of their background.
“Football unites us. Today wasn’t just about watching a match; it was about creating a space where people from different communities could come together, celebrate Ghana and strengthen our sense of togetherness. That is the Ghana we want to build,” he said.
The event adds to Ambassador Yaghi’s growing list of community-centred initiatives.
Over the years, he has spearheaded humanitarian projects including feeding between 15,000 and 20,000 people in communities such as Nima and Asokwa, while also supporting youth empowerment and job creation initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods.
Beyond his community work, Ambassador Yaghi has also championed economic development on the continental stage.
Earlier this year, he led discussions to deepen Ghana-Malaysia economic cooperation in his capacity as the African Union Agenda 2063 Assembly Ambassador for Sustainable African Industrialisation and Infrastructure, promoting investment, industrialisation and cross-border trade partnerships.
Saturday’s fan zone transformed the Asokwa Interchange into what many patrons described as an open-air stadium, complete with giant viewing screens, organised seating and an electrifying atmosphere that turned the Black Stars’ match into a shared regional experience.
Many attendees praised the initiative, describing it as an innovative way of promoting community cohesion while giving residents an opportunity to support Ghana together.

The event is expected to reinforce Ambassador Yaghi’s reputation as a development-focused leader whose interventions continue to span humanitarian support, youth empowerment, economic development and community engagement.
