MTN foundation takes ‘wear it for me’ campaign to hospitals in Volta, Oti regions

MTN Foundation has donated thousands of nose masks to health facilities in the Volta and Oti regions, as part of a nationwide exercise that seeks to promote the wearing of nose masks as a safety measure in the fight against the deadly novel coronavirus.

The donation included 3000 pieces of KN95 facemasks to the Ho municipal hospital and 2,700 pieces to Ketu South municipal hospital in the Volta Region, 3000 for Jasikan and 3,700 for Dambai in the Oti Region.

In a statement read on behalf of the sales manager of the company, Stephen Asare by the Volta/Oti lead of MTN, Mawuli Katahena the company commended the dedication of health workers towards the fight against the pandemic.

“We would like to take this opportunity to commend you and all other health workers across the country for your dedication in the fight against COVID-19 in Ghana. When the first case was recorded in Ghana, many of us were consumed with fear and uncertainty; we were not sure how things will turn out and how you would cope with the situation. As tough as the circumstances have been, our health workers have been up to task in the fight against this deadly virus. We say Ayekoo,” the statement read.

According to him, MTN Ghana remains a major stakeholder in the fight against the pandemic, a reason for which it has invested Gh¢5m into the provision of PPEs among many other things.

“During this pandemic, we have made several interventions across the country. The support given by MTN are very substantial and rightly so. We all need to give our best to help improve the situation. Key amongst our support are the over 44,000 PPEs and PCR machines which we presented to the National COVID Trust Fund. We also provided essential equipment to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research to promote rapid testing and data processing.

We have not only invested in these PPEs which was worth Gh¢5mllion, we are also investing in behavioral change programs. In line with this, we have recently launched the ‘Wear it for Me’ and ‘Be Wise’ campaigns which seeks to raise awareness about the importance of face masks in the fight against the virus.”

The foundation further encouraged Ghanaians not to lose guard as the pandemic continue to wreck havoc across the world.

“At MTN, we believe that we have a major role to play in the fight against COVID-19 right from the onset, and this continues to be paramount to us. We continue to encourage all Ghanaians to adhere strictly to all the safety protocols issued by local and global authorities in fighting this pandemic.”

The ‘Wear it for me’ campaign would include the donation of 88,500 masks in 30 other hospitals in all 16 regions of Ghana.
