The Ho District Magistrate Court has remanded into police custody, the prime suspect in the murder of 25-year old Kafui Harriet Hiati, who was killed in Ho last month.
The suspect Jay Anthony Dordorye, was arraigned before the court in the afternoon of Wednesday, April 21, after he was discharged from the hospital, same day the deceased was buried.
He, until Wednesday afternoon, was at the Ho Teaching hospital receiving treatment for injuries he supposedly inflicted on himself in an attempt to commit suicide in the night of the incident which occured on March 22, 2021.
According to the Volta Regional Police PRO, Sgt. Prince Dogbatse, the suspect who is charged with murder was remanded into police custody while investigations continue.
He said, “We have a bit of processes and procedures to go through to actually move to trial. Once we have not gotten there yet, provisionally he has been charged with murder.”
Sgt. Dogbatse further stated that a post-mortem was conducted on the body of the deceased by the police who are yet to receive the results.
The suspect is, however, expected to reappear in court on Wednesday, May 5, 2021.
Jay Anthony Dordorye is accused of killing her now deceased girlfriend, Kafui Harriet Hiati, a former student of the Sokode Technical Senior High school by slitting her throat.
The suspect who was found in the same room with the lifeless body of Kafui, also had deep knife cuts in his throat and stomach.
He was admitted to the Ho Teaching hospital in the early hours of March 23, where he was treated for weeks and discharged.
Meanwhile, a funeral and burial service was held for the deceased on Wednesday morning in her hometown, Agotime-Kpetoe.
Hundreds of mourners were seen crying uncontrollably at the cemetery where she was finally laid to rest.
