Three suspects have been arrested at Accra International Airport (AIA) after the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) foiled an attempt to smuggle approximately five million tramadol tablets into the country.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation by NACOC officers, who intercepted the consignment estimated to have a street value of about GH¢100 million.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the shipment was intended for distribution within Ghana and potentially other parts of the sub-region.

Authorities suspect the seizure forms part of a larger drug trafficking network and have launched further investigations to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the operation.
The seized tramadol tablets have since been secured as evidence while forensic and documentary examinations continue.

NACOC said the operation forms part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and safeguard public health and national security.
The Commission also appealed to the public to support the fight against illicit drugs by reporting suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.

The three suspects are expected to be arraigned before court upon the completion of investigations in accordance with Ghana’s narcotics laws.
